April 2002 Updates
April 16, 2002

Yay!!! Tax season is officially over! While Dean has been back to normal hours for a while now, we can finally take a much needed vacation.

Amy had her first experience with finger paints today, and what an experience it was. It started with only four colors, one for each kid that was playing with them. Then we added 8 more and that's when the fun really began. By the time it was all done, Amy was covered pretty much from head to toe in paint. At one point I think she thought it was lotion and started rubbing it on her arms. All of the kids really had fun though and we parents got some great pictures and entertainment out of it too.

She is non-stop talking these days. About anything and everything. Words that she's only heard maybe once or twice she's using, correctly in most cases too. She's recognizing places. For example when we drive to Wal-Mart we are in the same area as Dean's office. She gets very excited and starts saying "daddy's ottice" (instead of office) and thinks we are going there. Today when she went to the New Romans daycare, she started saying "Sam & Joe", because she knew she would see the twins there.

She is also becoming more decisive about what she wants to eat when given choices. She is definitely one smart cookie.

Here are today's "pictures of the day".

Well I think we all had the living daylights scared out of us this afternoon. Amy decided to take a tumble down the stairs. Dean was in the kitchen and I was downstairs in the office when it happened. She has been doing well going up and down the stairs on her own and had been going up and down by herself most of the morning. Fortunately she's fine, just a few tears and a scrape on the knee.

She is quite the imitator these days. She imitates faces, actions, and of course words. She is very expressive, more so than the other kids I've seen her age. She loves to look at herself in the mirror and make faces too. It has become a standard thing now that after her bath she stands in front of the mirror, dances and makes faces at herself. It's quite entertaining.

We're starting to move past the board books and on to regular books. Her favorites lately seem to be the Winnie The Pooh books that she has. There is also a book that I had when I was little that was published by Disney with all of their stories (Bambi, Snow White, etc). The illustrations look to be from some of the movies that they made of the stories. I guess it's time to start looking for another bookcase. We're running out of room for all of our books again.

As you can see by one of today's pictures, she enjoys playing with suitcases. It's something that Oma showed her on her last visit here and ever since I've had out one of the smaller suitcases of ours for her to play with. She climbed in the other day and then tried to pull the top over on herself. It is amazing what entertains her.

I am also hearing myself in her. She will be talking to her bears or her baby and will tell them things that I hear myself telling her over and over. Also, on occassion, she will take one of our faces and turn it towards her and say "look me" for "look at me". Which is something that I have done when I'm trying to get her to listen to what I am saying to her.

We think Amy will like roller coaster rides when she gets older. She certainly likes to swing high in her swing. I think that has to be her favorite thing to do these days. And now that spring has returned and it's been warm outside, we've been able to go out and use it again.

She went back to school today after being off all week last week. John's mommy, Sherri, did me the favor of taking Amy and picking her up since was substituting for another teacher. So in addition to playing with John this afternoon, Amy got to see him at school too. Because of that I had a little extra free time this morning and was able to get a lot done on my latest quilt that I am working on. To see the progress, click here.

We'll be leaving for our trip to Seattle on the 22nd. We'll be gone for two weeks, but I will post more updates and pictures before we go and then lots of pictures once we get back.

Here are today's "pictures of the day".

We have another aspiring pilot in the family. As you can see by today's only picture, Amy had to try her hand at flying (while we were on the ground) on Tuesday. It was such a nice day that Dean took the afternoon off of work, and we all flew up to Chattanooga just for fun. Amy slept the entire way up and was awake the entire way back. She didn't like getting in the plane at first, but once she was in her seat, and Dean & I were in our seats she settled down and shortly after take-off was asleep. Coming back was easier getting her in and she looked out the window most of the flight back.

Her latest question is "do mommy?" or "do daddy?" as her way of asking "what are you doing?" It can be anything from getting dressed to cooking dinner, going to the bathroom or reading a book. Life under a microscope almost.

Today she had to say hi to everything. From her diapers to the chicken and cheese in her taco at lunch, to her chair at dinner and of course mommy, daddy and the cats every few minutes.

Hooray, one of her two year old molars finally cut through the gum. Now we have 3 more to go. These last ones have definitely been the hardest and most painful of all the teething we've experienced.

Enjoy today's "picture of the day". Well try to take more over these next few days to make up for the lack of pictures lately.
