April 2003 Updates
April 26, 2003

Gee, I didn't realize it had been 2 weeks since the last update. Sorry about that. We have been busy with school, spring pictures, planting the garden, and playing outside.

Amy has been asserting more independence lately. Some of it good, some of it defiant. But we are working through it all. There have been a few times lately when she has gotten a no answer from one of us, and she will go ask the other one, to see if she can get a yes answer. So far, it hasn't worked.

She is now 35 1/4 inches tall. Our bathroom scale still says she's 28 pounds, but I find that hard to believe. Her vocabulary is astounding. She hears a word used once and the next thing you know she's incorporating it into her sentences.

She definitely loves to help out with whatever it is that we are doing. When we put in the garden, she was there helping to shovel and rake the dirt. She also helped to plant some of the seeds for nastursiums and beans. In fact, we now have teeny tiny bean sprouts popping up. Hopefully the corn will start to pop through soon too.

As of next week we will only have four weeks of school left. Where did the year go? Starting in May, she will be taking swim lessons at the YMCA two days a week - after school. It will be interesting to see how she does, especially since the parents don't get in the pool with the kids. Hopefully with John and Emilie being there too, it will be less a less traumatic experience.

Here are todays pictures. Enjoy!

Blower flowers. That's what Amy calls dandelions. When we discussing what to plant in the garden that we are putting in this year, she told me she wanted to plant blower flowers. I couldn't quite figure out what she meant until she told me they were the flowers that she picks in our yard and blows. Then I had a good laugh and tried to explain to her that we didn't need to plant them, they would just grow naturally.

She does seem to be excited at the idea of helping me to plant the garden. Maybe this will be a good way to get her to eat her vegetables - since she will help plant and grow them, maybe she'll actually want to sample them too.

Amy's version of the dinner blessing is pretty cute. She say's "God is Father, God is Father, once again, thank you for the blessings, thank you for the blessings, they are men, they are men." All with her eyes squeezed shut tight. The words actually are "God our Father, once again, thank you for our blessings, Amen" (repeating each line twice). It's another example of how cute some of the things kids say can be.

While playing outside today, Amy decided to load up all of her balls into her wagon and then announce that she was going on vacation. Her idea of vacation was to say bye to us and then head off down the street - to the end of the cul de sac. When asked where she went, she said "over there, and over there to Miss Patrice."

Here are todays pictures. Enjoy!

Can you spot Amy in the first picture? If you look very carefully you might see a hint of pink in all the pillows. That's her buried in there, what she was calling her house. She had a blast pulling all the pillows off the couch, using the extra pillows that we have too, and crawling in and out and generally playing in them.

She is also being daddy's little helper when he is working in the garage. She had his screw driver and was pretending to fix her tricycle so that it would go faster.

This past week was spring break for her - so we've been spending the entire week doing projects around the house. Dean also took this week as vacation, so we were able to get a lot of things done. Amy helped us plant shrubs in the backyard, mostly moving dirt from one pile to another. But it kept her busy while we did all the big stuff. It was also nice enough to bring out the sandbox again, so she's been having fun playing in that too.

Next week life reverts back to normal. Although with the spring temperatures we are now having (bordering on summer a few of these past days) we're definitely playing outside more and more.

Here are todays pictures. Enjoy!
