Sorry it's been a while since an update. Oma was here for a weeks visit and that took up most of our time. (And my quilting habit too. See the quilts page for progress there.)
Amy is back to Mothers Morning Out (also known as school). She has had no problems with being dropped off by daddy, and has been having fun the entire time she is there. The first day back she didn't want to leave when I came to pick her up. Surprisingly she didn't fall asleep on the way home like I thought she would. Instead she talked and talked and told me all the thing she did and what some of the other kids did too. But yet, when I laid her down for her nap, she didn't complain and I think fell asleep almost right away. This is becoming a regular occurance.
Her latest phrase is "Okay". If you tell her for example that you'll be right back, she says "Okay". Or if you ask her to do something, same thing. It's not a short okay either, it's kind of long and drawn out. Hopefully it's not a southern accent manifesting itself at such an early age.
We took lots of pictures while Oma was here and did lots of fun things too. One day we went to feed the ducks, another day we went to ride the carousel and play on the slides. Another favorite past time of Amy's is to talk on the phone to Pompo and find out where he is. She then goes to the map that he sent her to find where he is. It requires some help, but she's starting to learn her geography at an early age. One of the funny things about it is that she has to point on the map using her pinkie finger, just like she saw one of us do one time. Now that's the way you have to point to something on a map.
She is definitely one smart cookie and has quite the independent streak too. We're all convinced that she will be the CEO of some major corporation at a young age at the current rate that she is maturing and growing up. She's 2 going on 22...
So without further delay, here are today's pictures.

Just a quick update. These pictures were too cute not to share right away.
This morning while I had a couple of errands to run, Amy stayed with the neighbor across the street. While I was gone, they put pigtails in everyones hair. After I got back, we all went to the mall to play on the slides, ride the carousel, and have lunch.
As you can see by the pictures, it wore her out so much that she had to lay down on the steps and take a rest. And the pigtails, although you can't see them both, looked absolutely adorable.
Enjoy today's pictures.

Amy is well on her way to being a bookworm. (Hopefully it's a habit that will continue.)
Yesterday Dean and Amy drove up to Chattanooga to go to McKay's Used Bookstore. (Dean had a bunch of old books that he was able to turn in there for a store credit). Amy wound up getting 4 new books and a Blues Clues video tape. This is in addition to the two new books she had gotten earlier in the week. We are starting to run out of bookcase space again.
This evening after dinner she was sitting in her glider in her room with all of her animals on her lap and reading a book to them all. The next thing I know she's got Dean sitting on the living room couch reading books to her and all of her animals have gone night-night.
Every day her speech seems to be getting clearer and clearer. Although a lot of what she says still has to be translated for those who aren't around kids often. But she is also remembering a lot of things too. For example today she told us that her big ball was a present from Cathie and Shea. This was true and they had given it to her 6 months ago at her birthday party. I was astounded that she remembered this.
We're not sure how much about China she'll remember. Sometimes when we try to bring it up she'll tell us "no China story". So it's hard to say if there is a memory there that she doesn't want to remember, or if she just wants to talk about something else. One of life's mysteries that will have to be solved later.
Enjoy today's pictures.

Sorry for the lapse in updates. Life has been busy around here.
2 weeks from today, Mother's Morning Out starts again. Can you hear the excitement in my words? Amy has been talking about going back to school, but we'll see how she actually does once she gets there.
Well, potty training seems to have lapsed lately. Amy has been requesting to wear diapers again instead of pull-ups for the past few days. So we continue to encourage using the potty, but still use the diapers and try to use the pull-ups too. I'm hoping that when she gets back to school and sees the other kids using the potty too that it might spur her on again.
One of today's pictures features a beautiful t-shirt from the National Cathedral brought back by Aunt Carline. She also sent Amy a book of prayers that has become the new favorite for bedtime reading.
She is carrying on entire conversations these days. Not only with us, but by herself as well. Lately when I have put her down for her nap, I will hear her in her room talking to all of her animals for quite some time before she actually goes to sleep.
A cute story. One day last week we were out driving somewhere when Amy said to me "Mommy, the moon is broken." I asked her what she meant and she pointed at the moon in the daytime sky and told me again that it was broken and that I should fix it. I think it was a half moon, but to her it looked broken. I then explained to her that I couldn't fix it, that God had to take care of that. She then told me that God takes care of her and mommy, and daddy, and everybody. Later that day at nap time I heard her in her room saying "God take care of Amy. God take care of mommy. God take care of daddy. God take care of John." etc., running down the list of everyone that she knows. It's amazing what that mind of her grasps and remembers.
Enjoy today's pictures.
