August 2003 Updates
|
|
Well there has been a lot going on around our house, but we haven't been taking many pictures. Thus the lack of updates. But now that we are getting back to a more normal routine of life again, hopefully we'll get that changed too.
Amy is not destined to be a prima ballerina. At least this year anyway. She decided after three days of dance camp that she didn't want to go back and wanted to go to vacation bible school instead. So that is what we did for Thursday and Friday of that week. She really seemed to enjoy it and have lots of fun there too.
We've been attending a new church - Cornerstone Church of Rome, since the beginning of summer. It's a great church and Amy has really been enjoying Sunday school too. This has been the first church that we've gone to that she didn't cling to us every time we dropped her off, so to me that was definitely a good sign.
She has also told us that she now wants to go back to music class in the fall. So the necessary paperwork to get her registered again has been turned in and we'll start a new class at the end of August. She'll be moving up a level this year, where it's just the teacher and the kids for most of the class with the parents joining at the end. Hopefully she will enjoy this class as much as the last classes, especially since she seems to have a real love for music.
Amy started her "new" school last week. I was apprehensive at first, even though she said she was excited about going there. New teachers, new kids, and a new drop off routine - a car pool line instead of walking them in to class. But she did great from the first day on. She is loving her class and all that she is learning, her teacher - Miss Ansley, and everything that they do there. So far the first week they learned a memory verse of scripture, made a craft each day, played outside, and had music time too. I'm sure there were other activities as well, but these were the ones that stuck in her mind the most.
She is absorbing everything like a sponge lately. It is astounding what all she is remembering and learning and then repeating days later. She really impressed her Sunday school teachers by remembering the verse of scripture they had taught and the story that went along with it. So much so that she won a little prize this past Sunday for doing so well. What's even more amazing to me is that when she was asked again today what it was, she remembered and quoted it again.
She is trying to write her name and other things too. She will mostly scribble still, but pretty much knows how to write an A, a M, and a Y, although sometimes out of order.
Another story from church. The children's church directors - Haley & Jody are travelling to Columbia on a missions trip soon. They have been telling the kids about their upcoming trip for the past few weeks, showing them where Columbia is on the globe and the reason why they are going - to teach the kids there about God. Well this must have made an impact on Amy, because when she came home from church this past Sunday she told us the Miss Haley and Mr Jody were going to Columbia soon. She then went and got three of her pennies and said she wanted to give them to Jody and Haley for their trip. When she took them in to Haley on Wednesday night, Haley first thought they were Amy's tithes and offerings. Amy kept insisting no it was for her and Jody. Later we explained to Haley that this was Amy's gift to them for their trip. Needless to say, Haley was very touched by Amy's generosity and compassion.
While we haven't had many opportunities to swim this summer, we have gone to the pool a few times. One of our outings was with John to swim at the country club. Amy wasn't too sure about the pool there at first, but by the time we were ready to leave she was using a little floatie and walking around the shallow end pretty well by herself.
Here are a few pictures for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy!
