Amy's newest behavior is to tell me when her diaper is wet or dirty. However, she calls her diapers "bawbaush", so if you don't know what she's saying you would never guess that's it. She is also trying to put a diaper on one of her bears too. It's entertaining to watch. Now if she would just let me know that she has to go before she does her duty in her diaper we'd be all set.

She saw her play-yard in the closet and kept calling it nap. So we pulled it out, set it up, and then she decided to lay down. Although she didn't actually take a nap, I think this is the first time she's been in the play-yard since our vacation this summer. She had fun in there for about all of 5 minutes. Then she was on to something else.

We're getting ready for Oma & Pompo's visit. They arrive this evening in Chattanooga (much closer to us than the Atlanta airport) and will be here for two weeks. We have lots of fun things planned, but I will be sure to take time to post a few updates.

An update to the update... I've added 2 more pictures. After a good nap, Amy decided to sit with Mittens in the chair in our home office. Surprisingly Mittens actually stayed put. Had it been Tigger, he would have been out of the chair before she even had a chance to sit down.

Amy has now learned what a touchdown is and also is getting quite demanding. While we were having dinner at our local Pizza Hut, they had a football game on in the background. It caught Amy's attention more than anything else she has ever seen on television. She saw one of the teams score a touchdown and then the referee held his arms up. Dean did this too and said touchdown. Amy then repeated the motion and then did it again when she saw the game on tv. Also, when she wants you to sit down or wants up, she will say quite authoritatively "sit" or "up". These have become two of the favorite words lately.

As an early Christmas present from Amy we received an ornament that she made in school. It's quite cute. They painted little flowerpots blue & white, then turned them upside down, painted a snowman on the side, then glued a picture of themselves to the front. The ribbon that is strung through as the hanger also has a bell on it that is inside to make it sound like a chime.

She has been having a few bad days as far as sleeping is concerned. Monday's nap was all of a half an hour - partly due to the doorbell ringing and waking her up. But she has also been waking up a lot at night. We can't figure out if it's due to nightmares or the teeth that are bulging in her mouth and causing so much grief.

Amy is also now understanding the concept of sunglasses. While we were out over the weekend we had to get her another pair, since we didn't have her other ones with us. She saw us with our sunglasses on and kept insisting that she needed glasses too. Then later on Saturday she was perplexed because I didn't have my regular glasses on (I had my contacts in) and kept insisting that I should be wearing my glasses. As you can see by the pictures she still has a hard time getting them on straight. But she's getting there.

She has figured out how to put on her socks. Although often the heel is on top of her foot, she has managed to get them on by herself a few times now. Usually while riding in the car seat - because she takes her shoes and socks off when we go somewhere.

We have heard from some of the families that we traveled to China with. It's wonderful to see pictures of their girls and hear how well everyone is doing. Hopefully someday we'll all be able to get together for a reunion so the girls can see one another again.

Amy received her Social Security Card today. Hooray!!!

Thursday will be her class Christmas party at MMO, and then we're off for 3 weeks.

I think Amy may have one of her last 4 molars coming in. She's been drooling a bunch lately and trying to stick her whole hand in her mouth. Otherwise she is generally happy and having fun everyday.

She has figured out the word "tickle" and will often tickle herself or her bears. She will also say tickle and it actually sounds like tickle. We also think she said her first sentence - probably unintentionally. But she said "Amy and Daddy" - which was also the first time she used the word "and".

As you can see by today's picture, Amy and Tigger think they are Christmas presents. It also gives you an idea of how big our tree is this year. Glad we have high ceilings in the living room.

December 8, 2001

Sorry for the delay everyone. In addition to everything that we have been doing all week, I've been battling a cold which has just wiped me out.

Amy had her Christmas program on Thursday. She wasn't very animated and it didn't look like she did any of the hand motions to Twinkle Twinkle, but at least she didn't cry. A couple of the other kids were pretty outgoing, but the rest of them just stood there looking at all the parents.

The sweatshirts that they made for the program were adorable. However Amy's was about 4 sizes to big for her. Her teacher told her she could probably fit in to it when she's six. She has gained weight since we've been home and she's definitely getting taller, but we still think she'll be petite when she's done growing. She's currently wearing 2 T sizes - and even some of those are still a little big.

Amy finally rode the horse on the carousel. It took 3 tries before she would do it, but Friday after Kindermusik she and two friends from class (and us Mom's) went to the mall so the kids could ride the carousel and play on the new play area that one of the hospitals has set up. At first she still seemed a little apprehensive, but by the time it was over she was enjoying herself.

We have one more week of MMO and Kindermusik before Christmas break. Everything will start up again the first full week of January. We're also looking forward to having Amy's Oma & Pompo come for a visit for Christmas. Keep an eye on the mailboxes. Pictures should be arriving soon (if they haven't already).

Amy is finally starting to notice Christmas. She discovered the outside Christmas lights and decorations Friday evening. She calls them "pretty". Then Saturday we got our tree - a rather large Fraiser Fir - the largest tree Dean & I have ever had since we've been married. I'm guessing it's about 7 to 8 feet tall, plus the stand that it sits in. It's a good thing we have high ceilings in the living room.

When we first put the tree up Amy tried pulling one of the branches. We told her not to do that and to be nice, so she now pets the tree and says nice - the same thing that she does to the cats. Sunday afternoon while Amy napped I decorated the tree. When she got up from her nap she came out and the first thing she noticed were balls. She tried playing with some of the ornaments, but after being corrected, she is leaving them alone.

While I was talking on the phone to a friend, Amy overheard me say "she ate like a horse". She in turn said "eat! eat! neigh!" Needless to say it was difficult to continue the conversation after that because I was laughing so hard.

This Thursday coming up, Amy has her Christmas program at school. I will be sure to take my camera this time. I can't wait to see a bunch of older 1 year olds perform "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star". It should be very cute indeed.
