December 2002 Updates

Merry Christmas everyone!

Since Amy & I are leaving on Christmas day to go to Washington for 3 weeks; Dean, Amy & I celebrated Christmas a few days early. Sunday morning when Amy woke up, there were all the Christmas presents under the tree. At first she didn't quite know what to make of it, because nothing had been under there yet. Then she realized it was presents and that she had gotten the "big pillow" that she was wanting and she got excited. She also thought it was funny that Santa had leaned the pillow up against her coloring easel (which had been her big Christmas present last year).

We managed to get most of it on video tape, and the photos today are captured from that footage. She liked opening the presents, so much so that she had to help us open ours too. So now she has a bunch of new stuff play with. And then when we get to Washington, she'll have Christmas again - this time with Oma and Pompo.

So here are a few pictures. The quality isn't as good as the digital camera. But we'll be back with lots more pictures after our trip. Enjoy!

Through the technology of being able to edit video on the computer now, we have a little clip of Amy's Christmas program at school. Click on the link below and it should open Windows media player to show you a 10 second movie of her entering the room for their performance. Enjoy.

Amy's Christmas Program

December 12, 2002

Well the whining tantrums have seemed to diminish a bit. Now we're going through the pouting stage. That is pretty funny when she does pout, and we usually wind up laughing at it, versus getting annoyed by the whining. But there are still those moments of power struggles and the asserting of independence.

Today at school was the Christmas program. All the different classes came out and performed a song. Amy's class did Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer and Jingle Bells. I say Amy's class, because most of the time she was up there she had a very sad look on her face and was on the verge of tears. When I asked her about it later she told me she cried because her reindeer headband kept falling off.

We also finally got back her fall school pictures. They turned out much better than last years. Of course last year when she had the picture taken was right after she had come out of the hospital and wasn't quite back to her cheerful self again. This year she was a little hesitant at first, but then they managed to get a nice picture of her.

She has been surprisingly shying away from the camera lately. She's usually quite the ham, but when I've tried to take her picture she tells me no and tries to run and hide.

Her personality is really coming out these days. She repeats a lot of what we say and do, but she is also using her imagination and thinking up things on her own. As long as she knows you and is comfortable, she is very outgoing. But around strangers, she is definitely showing a shy side.

We'll (Amy & I that is) be leaving for Seattle on Christmas day to spend 3 weeks with Oma and Pompo. She seems to be looking forward to going on the big airplane. Hopefully that will still be the case when we get on the airplane and are on it for 5 hours. But I will try to get a couple more updates out before then. We will be celebrating Christmas early with Dean, probably next Sunday (the 22nd) and then again in Washington after Pompo gets home from his latest trip.

So without further delay, here are today's pictures. Enjoy!
