February 2002 Updates
February 24, 2002

I had to post these pictures as soon as we took them. They are too cute not to share right away.

This afternoon Amy played outside and discovered sidewalk chalk. Actually it should probably be called driveway chalk, but regardless, she had fun playing with it.

She is also learning how to ham it up for the camera. As soon as she sees a camera come out, she immediately says "cheese" and usually has a campy smile on her face. As you can see it's usually pretty cute.

Here are today's "pictures of the day".

Well, let's see - what all has happened in the past 10 days.

Amy now weighs in at 25 pounds and is 2 feet 5 inches tall. At least that is according to the height chart at the play area at the mall. We'll know more definite how much she has gained and grown when we go back to the doctor some time in March for her 2 year old visit.

She is forming short sentences, 3 and 4 words sometimes. Everyone that has met her is just amazed by her vocabulary.

These past two Wednesday's Amy has gone with me to the quilters guild stitch in's. These are held at different members houses and everyone brings a project to work on. It's a great place to get to know some of these ladies better and definitely learn a lot more about quilting. Well I now think that Amy must have another dozen adopted grandmothers. They are all just so taken with her.

"Music class" and "go, go shopping" are her two favorite phrases. Every day this past week when we would get ready to go some where, she would say "music class". I would have to explain that no, today wasn't the day for music class yet. Then should would ask "go, go shopping?". My reply would be, "no, we're not going shopping, we're going to school, the post office, or the chiropractor". I think only once did we actually go shopping. When we finally did go to music class at the end of the week, she was so excited!

She is starting to associate different places with different things. For example, she knows that when we go to the chiropractor, that she gets a sticker. When we go to the bank, she gets either the envelope that the money comes in or the receipt for the deposit. And sometimes even a penny. Usually that's what she asks for first when we go to the bank. Wal-Mart she knows we go shopping, and when we pull into the driveway at UTS, she knows that is daddy's office and that we'll see Cathie.

Potty training is going very slow. As I type this I can hear her and Dean in her room having a diaper change. She did manage to go on the potty 2 times this week - actually while we were out at the stitch in. But for some reason she won't go here at home. Although she is trying to unsnap her clothes and change her own diaper too. That is quite the sight to see.

Happy Chinese New Year - the year of the Horse.

In honor of the new year, we had a Chinese dinner here at home this evening. While it wasn't the traditional dinner, we did have pot stickers, steamed pork buns, and steamed red bean buns for dessert. Amy certainly seemed to enjoy every bite she ate.

After a few days of not having an appetite, Amy's seems to be back with a vengance. Yesterday Chick Fil A brought chicken nuggets and french fries to MMO. In addition to eating the 4 she was given, Amy had another 2 1/2 nuggets and about 1/2 of her french fries. Today for lunch we went to Waffle House where she ate almost an entire waffle. It's amazing she doesn't weigh a ton. She is growing, but remains on the petite side in comparison to all the other kids. Guess she won't have the problem (like her mom does) of finding pants long enough.

She has also moved into a booster seat at the table instead of her high chair. Although she still wants the tray on the booster seat at times, she is doing well with sitting at the table and using her fork and spoon. Next is to start permanently drinking from a regular cup instead of a sippy cup.

Yesterday while we were shopping at Wal-Mart, Amy spotted a pair of pants that looked as though they were straight out of the 60's. Bright red with big white flowers and bell bottoms. When she saw them she said "Oma"! I asked her if she thought Oma should where those pants and she said "uh-huh".

She has also been quite the parrot today. Dean spent the day working from home instead of the office. So when I called to him from the top of the stairs, she came over and stood next to me and said exactly what I said. She also will repeat things that I say to her. On occassion she'll walk up to me and say "Hi mommy". When she does this I answer her back with "Hi sweetie". She then has to say hi sweetie back to me. She has also heard us say "stop it" on more than one occassion, so now she will go up to the cats (who usually aren't doing anything at the time) and tell them to "stop it".

In addition to today being the new year, I just now realized as I was getting ready to post this, that we have had Amy exactly 11 months today. Wow! I can't believe it has been that long.

Enjoy today's "pictures of the day".

February 9, 2002

I never realized how busy life with a toddler could be. I intended to post this update on February 3rd. It is now February 9th and I'm just getting it out there.

Amy is managing her way up and down the stairs much better these days. She still holds one of our hands going down, but going up she does on her own, sometimes attempting to carry something in one hand and climb with the other.

She is also fascinated with the flowers on her outfits and leaves that blow around outside. She will pick the flowers from her clothes and then pretend to throw them in the air and say that she is sending them to someone. Other times she will pick them and want you to smell them. The same is true for leaves that we find outside. She will pick them up and throw them or if we are going to Dean's office, she will take them in to daddy.

She has learned how to walk and say "backwards". She does very well and usually manages not to run into anything. And you can actually understand that she is saying backwards.

Hop & jump are two of her favorite movements to do right now. She will hop around the living room and likes to jump from either the chair or the bed into your arms.

Books & reading continue to be another favorite activity. She is now calling books by names, for example "The Best Mouse Cookie" book is "mouse". If you ask her to get the mouse book she knows exactly which one to get and she will bring it to you. She will also read the book to you by telling you one word or action from each page. She first did this with Dean during lunch one day and she identified something on every page of the mouse book. She also does it with a Dr. Suess book "Mr. Brown Can Moo. Can You?" She especially likes the thunder and lighting noise pages in that book.

Amy also has to imitate things that we do. As you can see by today's pictures, she wanted to have her hair wrapped up in a towel like mommy does after her shower. She also has to brush her teeth when we do, eat the same things that we do, and wants to put on lotion or deodorant when we do. She has also reached the point where she has figured out how to buckle her strap on her high chair and can almost buckle her car seat buckle. Fortunately she can't figure out how to undo them yet.

Here are today's "pictures of the day".
