This evening Amy poo-poo'd on the potty. It came as a surprise to all of us. She had announced that she had to go potty, which she usually does anyway, and then she went off back toward the bathroom. The next thing I heard was I poo-poo'd! I poo-poo'd! Well my first thought was that she had gotten a pull-up out of the closet and had gone in that, so I didn't hurry back at first. Well when she called out again, I went back to see what was going on and sure enough, there she was on the potty saying that she had poo-poo'd and needed help cleaning up. Of course we made a big deal about it and she seemed very pleased too that she had done it all on her own. Now hopefully this is the breakthrough we've been waiting for and soon pull-ups will be a thing of the past.
We have been having some pretty nice days recently (with the exception of Friday and Saturday). So this afternoon after nap we went outside to play and Amy decided to play with her chalk. She didn't have anyone else to play with so she wanted me to lay down on the driveway so she could trace me. As you can see by the pictures it almost looks like a crime scene, but she did a pretty good job of outlining me.
She is also tracing other things - blocks on a calendar that she plays with and other shapes on some of the other papers that she plays with. She's drawing pretty good circles, but still has some trouble with other shapes.
Talk, talk, talk... on the phone, to herself, to her animals. She will pick up the phone - regardless of whether it was ringing or not and will just start carrying on a conversation. Usually it is with Oma or Pompo, but on occassion it will be daddy, or Miss Patrice (a neighbor), or someone else. She also carries on conversations with her babies and stuffed animals. On occassion putting them in time out, but usually having a tea party or doing something else involving them.
Singing is another favortie past time - especially in the car. She is now making up her own songs and singing songs that she has learned either from the cd's that we listen to or from music class.
We are also trying to use singing as a way to break her thumb sucking habit. This has just started in the past couple of days, but maybe it will actually work. We've brought the habit to her attention and will tell her to take her thumb out of her mouth when we see her sucking. This evening she told us that she wanted to put something in her mouth, mainly her thumb, so we suggested instead that she sing. And she did. Itsy Bitsy Spider, Twinkle Twinkle, her ABC's, Teddy Bear, and a couple of others that I can't remember now. Hopefully this will help break the habit, otherwise we'll have to come up with something else.

One of the things that got started while we were at Oma and Pompo's was trying to get Amy to eat different things, especially vegetables. Pompo came up with the idea of food pockets in her tummy that needed to be filled by different things. Well it seems the idea has worked, to a certain degree. Now when we are eating a meal she'll tell me that her pockets are either full or that she needs more to fill up a certain pocket.
While cutting up potatoes the other week to make mashed potatoes for dinner I managed to cut my finger pretty good. It didn't require stitches, but it did cause Amy to be concerned for quite a while. Now, whenever I use a knife, Amy tells me to be careful and not hurt myself again. She also told Dean the other day, while he was cutting up strawberries, not to hurt himself like mommy did. It apparently made quite the impression on her.
She also has her own little craft stash now. It includes decorative scissors, paper, a glue stick, pipe cleaners and fabric scraps. She has a great time playing with all of these things, especially when I am downstairs quilting. It definitely keeps her occupied.
Amy is also being quite independent about some things these days. She now is going potty by herself - unless she is wearing something that she needs assistance with. She is also helping to set the table for meals, get things out of cupboards, and just getting around on her own in general. She still has not figured out though that she can get out of bed without one of us coming in to get her. I wonder how much longer that will last.
Here are todays pictures. Enjoy!
