July 2003 Updates
July 22, 2003

We did lots of fun things on our trip. Amy was a great traveller. One day we took the ferry from Seattle over to Poulsbo. She didn't care for the blasting horn, but other than that she seemed to enjoy the ride.

Another fun outing was to the aquarium. Amy actually got to touch a starfish, see an octopus, the otters, seals, and even some sharks. We also made the rquired trip to the market where she saw the big bronze pig and all the flowers and flying fish. She didn't like the flying fish stand much - I think it was too noisy for her liking.

The weather was glorious most every day we were out there. Amy had a blast playing outside with Oma and Pompo. She and Pompo built a kite, although it never quite made it up very high. She helped Oma pick lettuce from a garden, water the flowers, and take Mushi for a walk. She also got a chance to see horses close up a couple of times, saw some bunnies on the driveway, watched a lot of birds, including what we think might have been a baby woodpecker. It's one advantage to going out to visit - there is a lot more wildlife to see and learn about than there is here around Rome.

Amy can now tell you her address, that she lives in Rome, Georgia, and her phone number. She also says that "she's going to be this many (and holds up 4 fingers) when she grows up".

Dance camp has been going pretty well too. She's not participating as much as some of the other girls, I don't know if it's just her observing everything first before she tries something, or if she's not interested. When you ask her if she's having fun, she tells you that she is, but to watch her it's hard to tell sometimes. So we'll finish off the week and then make a determination after that as to what our fall extraciricular activity will be, if any.

Here are more pictures from our trip. Enjoy!

Well it was my intention to post an update the day after we got home from our trip, but that didn't happen. First we were delayed in Cincinatti coming home (due to weather) and then getting adjusted back took a little more time than I expected.

Amy recovered from the jet lag pretty quickly, but it seemed to take Dean and me longer. And I think we have been going non-stop since we've been back. But at least now things are finally settling back in to our routine.

Next week Amy will have dance camp, every day for an hour each day. Then the following week is a free week with no plans, and starting August 5th, Amy will be starting back to school. She's starting a different school this year, still a "mothers morning out" sort of program, but it will be closer to home. She'll be meeting new friends - possibly some of the kids that she'll be going to Kindergarten with if we are still here then. The days will be a little different; Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and the time is a little different too; 9:30 to 1:30. But she seems to be excited about it, talking about starting her "new school", so we'll see how it goes when she actually starts.

This summer has been a growing time for Amy too. Her comprehension and thought processes have matured incredibly. It is fascinating to watch her grow everyday.

Since it's been so long, I've posted as Amy would say "a whole bunch" of pictures. Enjoy!
