May 31, 2001
Well I wanted to get this posted sooner, but as you can see, I'm a couple of days behind.
Amy had her second doctors visit on Tuesday. She did very well. She now weighs 19.6 pounds, up from 16 pounds when we first came back, and had two more vaccinations. She didn't cry nearly as much this time as the first time she had her shots. The doctor pronounced her to be in good health and developing like any other child of her age. So now we have another two months before we go back again for the last set of shots until she starts kindergarten.
Today she had a bit of a cranky day. Yes, I know everyone thinks she's such an angel, but believe me, she does have her cranky moments. Today's lasted for a couple of hours, mostly crying and wailing for no discernable reason. But now she's fine, laughing and playing with her dad.
As you can see by one of todays pictures, she's getting bigger and stonger every day. The other picture is another one from our trip. Pompo and Amy enjoying a Chinese lunch.

Happy Memorial Day Everyone!
We're back from Washington. Amy and I had a wonderful trip, although as usual, it was too short. She charmed everyone she met, and now the grandparents are going through withdrawl.
Since I last posted, she has made even more progress. She now alternates between crawling and walking. She will walk to one side of the room and then decide to crawl back to the other. Of she'll walk a few steps, and then sit down, then crawl the rest of the way. She has also started trying to feed herself with a spoon. She is babbling more and now she has started singing too.
She will actually imitate songs that play on one of her musical toys. She also sings along with the radio, the clock when it chimes, or anything else that may be the least bit musical. While we were out west she even tried playing the piano. Unlike most kids who would just bang on the keys, she actually used different fingers to deliberately press different keys.
The time change seems to have been more of an adjustment for her coming back than when we came home from China. Nap schedules are now off, and going to bed at night has become somewhat of a challenge. Hopefully this will clear up in the next couple of days.
She waves bye-bye now, although usually after the person is gone, not as they are leaving. She is also trying to blow kisses. As you can see by one of today's pictures, Oma is trying to teach her how to do this.
Tomorrow Amy has her second doctors appoinment. She will get booster shots for vacines, and a general check up. I'm curious to find out how much weight she's gained and how much she has grown since we've been back. She eats everything in sight, mostly fruits and vegetables and other healthy stuff, and is growing like a weed.
In honor of Memorial day, we are flying Amy's flag. This flag was flown over the Capitol in Washington DC on March 22, 2001 in honor of Amy becoming an American citizen. You can see a picture of it below.
Most of the other pictures from our trip on Mom & Dad's computer & camera. Once I get copies, I'll be sure to post some of them too.

May 14, 2001
Sorry it's been a few days. I was sick for the weekend, and then threw my back out on Monday. But here is the latest update.
For most of the weekend Amy was practicing her standing up by herself. She is doing very well with it and hasn't fallen over to hard too many times. She would also walk a few steps too after she had gotten up. On Saturday morning she decided she was ready to climb the stairs. She made it up both flights without any trouble. She's done this a couple of times now. Fortunately we have a gate at the top so she won't be trying to go down by herself any time soon.
As you can see by the pictures below, Amy is ready for our trip, leaving Wednesday morning. The second picture is Amy in the frame that she and Dean gave me for Mother's Day. Enjoy!

This evening for the first time, Amy stood up on her own without having to use anything to pull herself up. She was in the middle of the living room floor, bent over in her triangle position and she just stood up. In addition, she is now crawling in such a way that is half crawling, half walking. One leg is straight while the other remains bent on the floor. It's quite a sight to see.
This morning she also walked from the gate at the top of the stairs, half way down the hall to our bedroom without any assistance. She was already standing at the gate, she has figured out how to pull herself up there. I stood in the doorway and called to her and she came toddling down the hall. She was very proud of her accomplishment, as was I.
We are preparing for our trip to Washington (state) next week. Amy & I will be gone for a week to visit the grandparents. I'll try to post updates during that time, but just in case I don't I'll be sure to post a bunch when I return.

Amy had her first haircut today. Well actually just her bangs got trimmed. She did pretty good. She was okay sitting in the chair and when Cyndi put the cape on her she was still okay. It was when her hair started getting cut that she started crying. But then she quickly got over it and was on to something else.
She is also walking more. This evening she was going back and forth between a chair and an ottoman. At one point she walked to the chair, turned herself around and walked back to the ottoman without any "extra" help. The only thing she is still having difficulty with it standing up on her own from a sitting position. She has figured out that she can pull herself up either with a chair, the wall, or our hands.
In the almost 2 months that we've had her she has grown amazingly fast. Most of the 12 month size clothes that I got before we left and since we've been back are starting to not fit. A lot of the 18 month sizes are now starting to fit, except for in the waist. Pants and shorts still fall down a bit, so we'll stay in the 12 month sizes of those a little longer. But most of her one piece summer outfits are now 18 month sizes.

Today Amy stood on her own for about 5 seconds and took her first "real" steps. Dean & I were sitting on the floor and she walked back and forth between the two of us, maybe about 4 or 5 steps. She still has a ways to go, but is definitely getting more steady on her feet every day.
She has also learned "TaDa", although it comes out more like "Dah" but in the right tone of voice. She even holds her arms up in the air above her head. It is quite cute.
Her other discovery today was that air comes out of the floor. Because we've been having such warm weather (it's been in the low 80's for the past few weeks) we've had the air conditioning running in the afternoons. This afternoon Amy discovered that cold air comes out of this metal thing on the floor. It was fun to watch her investigating something new.

The bottle is now gone. Amy is using her sippy cup exclusively and didn't put up a fuss about it either. We're starting to try a regular cup too, but in most cases the water winds up on the floor or down her front. She is also starting to give up her morning naps, while afternoon naps are getting a little longer.
Although not by herself yet, she is walking better each day. She only has to hold on with one hand now, her legs are getting more stable, and when she starts to wobble she manages to stop herself from falling over.
She has also discovered the fountain we have on the back deck. She is fascinated with water, wherever it may be. She is really enjoying her baths and managed to give herself one while playing with the fountain this evening. As you will see by today's pictures.
