If there is a piano to be played, Amy will find it and play it. Thanksgiving day we went to friends house for dinner, and of course, she found the piano. Although she didn't want her picture taken, she did have fun playing the piano. Later in the afternoon the ping pong balls were the big entertainment.
Amy is now also drinking out of a big girl cup. Not all the time, but she is using a regular cup in addition to her sippy cups. It's still easier to take the sippy cups when we go out, but we're trying to use the regular cups at home as much as we can.
Potty training is going pretty well. We've only had one accident so far when she was wearing her panties. But for the most part she will let us know when she had to go potty - as long as she's wearing her big girl panties. If she's wearing a pull up she won't even bother to tell us until after the fact. And then she wants it changed immediately.
Here are today's pictures. Enjoy!

Amy is afraid of Santa Claus. She saw him at the mall yesterday, from a distance, and said she didn't like him and didn't want to look at him. Needless to say, we won't be having a picture taken with Santa Claus.
When she was asked after she had been playing with it, if she wanted a Leap Frog toy like what John had gotten for his birthday, she said yes. I told her maybe she would get it as a Christmas present. She then told me she didn't want any Christmas presents, only birthday presents. Guess she still doesn't quite grasp that Christmas will come first.
She has been having fun playing Deans keyboard. As you can see by the pictures, it is a good source of entertainment. In the one picture where her eyebrows are raised - she is trying to wiggle her eyebrows. She's actually doing it pretty well now, but it did take some time for her to figure out how to do it.

We asked Amy the other day what she wanted to be when she grew up. Her response, "a boy." Needless to say we both burst out laughing while trying to explain to her that it just wasn't possible. But how do you explain that to a 2 year old?
Amy is going through a phase right now where if the littlest of things is out of order or something routine is not done it causes her to start crying. A perfect example is the following. In the mornings when Dean takes her to school I look out the dining room window and she waves to me as they drive away. She also does this on the mornings that she stays home and Dean goes to work. Well Monday morning she forgot to wave to me. About half way to school she started crying. When Dean asked her why, she told him she forgot to wave to me. So once they got to school she had to call and wave to me over the phone.
Another example was one day when Dean dropped her off at schoool she started crying when he left. The teachers told me about this when I picked her up that afternoon. When I asked her why she had been crying she told me it was because she didn't get to hug and kiss daddy good bye. She is such a creature of habit - which in some ways is a good thing, such as cleaning up her toys before we go out or go to bed, but in other ways I hope it's only a phase that doesn't lead to some high strung behavior later in life.
Dean was brave this weekend (while I was out of town for the day) and took Amy to one of those paint your own pottery places here in town. He said she had a lot of fun, especially when it came to painting her hands.

Since the last update Amy has attended a birthday party, slid in a giant inflatable slide, and moved into her big girl bed.
The birthday party and the slide story go together. It was John's third birthday and at his party they had a giant inflatable slide. At first Amy didn't want to try it, but after doing it twice with mommy she decided it was fun enough to do by herself and she did for the rest of the party. This was all on Saturday.
On Sunday, we went out and bought a new twin size mattress and box spring and put together my old spindle bed from when I was little. Dean took down the crib/toddler bed and then we put together the new bed (with safety rails so she can't fall out) and she slept in it for the first time Sunday night. This was also the same night that we had tornado warnings and extremely severe thunderstorms. She, amazingly, slept through it all.
Monday morning when I went in to wake her up, she was out from under the sheet and had her head at the foot of the bed. But she hadn't fallen out and that was our concern, since it is higher than a normal twin size bed.
When she went to take her nap on Monday, she told me that this bed didn't make her sleepy and that she couldn't take her nap. Although she stayed in there for 2 hours, mostly talking, singing and playing, she never did nap that day. It showed that evening too with grumpy behavior and falling asleep while driving home from dinner at Dean's office.
She is singing a lot more these days. In addition to songs that she's learned at school and music class, she's making up her own songs too.
We've had some challenges lately with behavior and screaming fits. Sometimes she just refuses to do what you are asking, other times it's not listening, and a few times it is obvious defiance, trying to see what she can get away with. Hopefully it will be another phase that passes quickly.
As you can see by the pictures today, she was enjoying her chocolate pudding for dessert this evening.

Yes, it's been a while since an update. I was hoping to get these pictures posted Halloween night, but obviously that did not happen.
Halloween evening we had a party with a bunch of the neighbors - Chili, hot dogs, chips, and favors for the kids. A great time was had by all. Then everyone went trick or treating. Amy wasn't too sure about it at first, but once she figured out that she was getting candy she decided it was fun.
We also had a visit from Pompo, the weekend before Halloween. Although it was too short, Amy certainly enjoyed having him around.
She is doing remarkably well with her counting and alphabet. She is now counting to 17, recites her ABC's without help, and is telling everyone what color is what.
She definitely has a mind of her own and a bit of an independent streak too. Lately she has been challenging us, occassionally throwing a fit and a crying tantrum. Usually it's been at home, but there have been a couple of times now when she has done it in a store. But we keep telling ourselves, it's a phase, she's testing her limits, this too shall pass.
And on top of that the "why" questions have also started. Although she's pretty good about only asking a few times. Once she gets what she considers to be a good answer she usually stops and is on to something else. Usually a whole new conversation completely not related to what you may have just been talking about.
But above all else she is a joy and we love her more and more every day. It is truly amazing to me to see the world through her eyes.
Here are today's pictures. Enjoy!
